Welcome to Kotako Studio – Exploring the World of Jewelry Design

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Kotako, and I’m a jewelry artist with a passion for creating unique and captivating pieces inspired by a diverse array of themes, from Vtubers and anime to nature, video games, and beyond. In this first post, I’d like to give you a brief introduction to my work and share one of my latest creations with you – the KFP chimkin employee pendant.

Discovering Kiara and the KFP community has been a significant turning point for me, not just as an artist but also as a person. Through her content and the vibrant, welcoming community, I’ve come to embrace my appreciation for all things adorable and heartwarming. This realization has led me to incorporate more whimsical and endearing elements into my designs, ultimately shaping my unique artistic style.

I modeled the chimkin a while ago, but recently I updated the design to make it hold a quaso. Honestly I did it as a meme, I was just planning to upload it to twitter for fun, but a lot of people liked it so I ended up detailing it and adding it permanently to my store. The process of creating this piece began with 3D sculpting the chimkin in Blender, which allowed me to carefully craft the character and capture its unique charm.

When designing jewelry, I pay special attention to the way each piece will look as it tarnishes over time. I often add cavities to the design that will give the piece more detail as they darken. In the case of the chimkin employee pendant, I wanted to create a design that would look good with a shiny, polished finish, while still maintaining the intricate details. Silver is a beautiful but naturally delicate material. While I ship each piece polished to the best of my abilities, it’s normal for silver to develop a patina and some scratches with regular use over time. I design my jewelry with this in mind, ensuring that each piece will continue to look stunning as it ages.

As I worked on the design, I had to consider the practical aspects of the pendant, such as its weight and comfort. I decided to make the pendant hollow with thin walls, ensuring it would be lightweight and comfortable to wear without compromising the size of the piece.

Once the design was finalized, it was time to move on to the 3D printing process. This stage can be both exciting and challenging, as I had to optimize the model for printing. This part of the process is very time consuming, it requires analyzing the model to see what would be the best orientation to print it to use as few supports as possible and if it requires modifications then you need to do that without modifying it so much it loses it’s shape. Despite the obstacles, the end result was a beautiful sterling silver pendant that I’m proud to share with fellow fans.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more insights into my design process, inspirations, and completed pieces. I also plan to highlight some influential Vtubers and their impact on my work. Thank you for joining me on this creative journey, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us!

Best regards,
